Here are some of the best places to go and visit or to eat near Swiss Cottage as well as links to some other local attractions. Many of these are places which we return to during our holidays at Bigbury on Sea and which we think are well worth a visit.
- Aune Valley View Cafe
Aune Valley Meats is located in Loddiswell - about a 15 minute drive from Bigbury on Sea. Beautiful valley views, local produce, relaxed and a great place to stock up at the butchery or farm shop.
- Avon Mill Garden Centre
Located between Kingsbridge and Loddiswell. Avon Mill offers "stylish accessories for your home, fab food for your larder, delicious food to eat, and amazing art". Worth a visit. Call 01548 550338.
- Beach House
Located pretty much on the beach between Thurlestone and Hope Cove this is a relaxed, laidback place to eat with 30 inside seats. Ideal for long lunches & simple suppers. Call 01548 561144.
- Bigbury Golf Course
A picturesque 18 hole golfing heaven. A challenging yet forgiving coastal golf course offers 18-holes, 6000-yards and is a very fair par-70. There are stunning views in all directions.

- Discovery Surf School
Discovery Surf School provides professional coaching for all ages and levels and is based in the beautiful seaside village of Bigbury-On-Sea. All equipment is supplied.
- Gara Rock Restaurant, East Portlemouth
A new "trendy" seafood restaurant located around 30 minutes away. A stunning location and recently featured in the Times. We have not been, yet, but it looks lovely! Call 01548 844810 for bookings.
- Holywell Stores
Your local stores! Situated in St Anns Chapel, you will pass it each time you drive out of Bigbury on Sea. The store stocks a fantastic range, opens til early evening and offers a FREE home delivery service to Bigbury on Sea. Call 01548 810308.

- River Cottage Canteen, Plymouth
Set in a Grade I Listed Brewhouse building, and situated right on the waterfront. The restaurant and deli has a large outdoor terrace, affording spectacular views of the River Tamar. Great family lunch and relaxed atmosphere.
- Riverford Farm Shop and Cafe
Fresh and tempting local produce to stock the cupboard and a lovely, relaxed cafe. Located on the A379 about 5 miles west of Modbury. Call 01752 880925.
- Sloop Inn, Bantham
The Sloop Inn at Bantham offers a good pub restaurant and local ales. Bantham is just across the Avon Estuary within easy reach of Bigbury. Be sure to check ferry times during the summer and take the ferry across from Bigbury beach to Bantham. Call 01548 560489.
- The Journeys End Inn, Ringmore
A 13th Century Free House in the Village of Ringmore. A charming rural inn serving great food and local beers. Food served daily from 12 til 1430 and 1800 til 2100 daily (except Sundays). Call 01548 810 205.
- The Oyster Shack
A unique place to enjoy eating simple yet beautiful food. Voted Top 3 Best Devon Restaurant 2010 and just a short drive away.
- The Ship Inn, Noss Mayo
Noss Mayo is a very quiet, and quite remote village located about 10 miles east of Plymouth. An award winning waterside pub for a quiet lunch or supper. Call 01752 872387.
